Older People's Housing Needs
31 Jul 06- 1 Aug 06
Introduction
Poole is keen to anticipate the future housing and housing support needs of its older people's population. The development of a draft strategy represents a first stage in outlining a proposed plan. This is an opportunity for people in Poole to comment on it and improve the final strategy due for completion in December 2007.
The folllowing consultation is being undertaken:
-an Older People's consultation group (this is a subgroup of Poole's Older People Strategy Group).
-a draft strategy circulated to all interested parties for comment
-a telephone helpline putting the public in direct contact with members of the consultation group
-direct contact with minority and hard to reach groups
-use of Poole Opinion Panel questionnaire
-involvement in Borough wide conference for older people in the autumn
Telephone 0845 4500418 to be put in contact with a member of the consultation group.
Background
The number of elderly people living in Poole is projected to continue to grow over the next 20 to 30 years. This is in line with national trends but is of particular importance in Poole where the percentage of elderly people in the population, at 22% is already one of the highest in the country.
In anticipation of this national trend central government has urged local authorities to develop a housing strategy that can progressively respond to the needs of older people its community. Poole readily responds to this as it already fit in with the longer term aspirations of the Borough.
