We asked the Panel ‘What actions do you think will most improve the quality of life for children and young people in Poole?’ The consultation, that involved children, young people and parents, has fed into the ‘Children and Young People’s Plan for Poole (2006-2009)’.
The most important outcomes to parents are:
- Achieve to the best of their ability and enjoy learning new things
- Feel safe where they live and in school
- Feel good about themselves and be emotionally strong
- Enjoy regular exercise and eat healthy food
- Get a good job that earns them a living
Children and young people thought that the most important outcome is ‘Staying Safe’, followed by ‘Being Healthy’.
The consultation and needs analysis work has identified the following priorities for the Children’s Partnership:
- Children and young people feel safe and are not bullied or threatened in their home, school and in public areas
- Healthy lifestyles are achieved for all children and health inequalities are reduced in targeted areas
- Parents feel supported and able to improve their children’s safety and well-being, especially in targeted areas
- Children and young people have access to a range of interesting and enjoyable activities, in and out of school, which support them in reaching their potential and high level ambitions
- Poole has confident, employable young people who have a positive relationship with their community
The over-riding priority is to i
mprove the life chances for vulnerable children and young people in targeted areas of the town. For more information go to boroughofpoole.com/childrensservices or contact Children and Families Services on 01202 735046.
