Proposal affecting Rossmore Community College
6 Apr 09- 15 May 09
Introduction
Rossmore Community College is currently a 12-18 Community school with a Published Admission Number of 231. The school first opened 70 years ago and some still living in the community attended the original school.
Rossmore specialises in sports but has in recent years not achieved the level of attainment across the curriculum we would expect and has therefore been monitored by both the Local Authority and OFSTED.
Rossmore now has the opportunity to be transformed under the Government Academy initiative, with potential new facilities delivered as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.
Background
It is proposed to close Rossmore Community College with effect from 31st August 2010 and to establish in its place an Academy offering education for 1100 pupils between the ages of 12-18. When the change in the age of transfer takes effect in September 2013 the school will take pupils between the ages of 11-18.
This document sets out the proposal to replace Rossmore Community College with the new Academy and should be read alongside other consultation documents produced by the Sponsors for the Rossmore Academy. These will give you a full picture of how the Sponsors and the Council, with their partners, intend to transform secondary education.
All consultation documents for both the closure of Rossmore Community College and for the proposed new Academy can be found on-line using the link to the right.
The Borough of Poole wishes to consult parents and carers, governors and staff of the school concerned and the parents and carers of children in Early Years Settings, First, Middle and Combined schools in the Rossmore pyramid, headteachers and governors of all Poole schools, neighbouring local authorities, as well as other interested parties.
A public meeting will be held at Rossmore Community College at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 5th May 2009. At this meeting there will be an opportunity to ask questions of representatives of the local authority and the Sponsors of the proposed Academy.
You are invited to complete the Response Form online using the link to the right.
Parents and carers are asked to complete one form only irrespective of how many children they might have attending the school or setting.
Forms must be returned by Friday 15th May 2009 at the latest to:
