Pride in Poole
We asked the Panel about the cleanliness of Poole... 21% told us that they thought the state of the Borough had improved over the 6 months prior to the survey; 61% thought it had stayed the same and 13% thought it had got worse.
Panel members were most positive about household recycling – 55% felt it had improved and 42% felt it had stayed the same. Dog fouling, graffiti, fly tipping and fly posting are the areas that they think most need improving. As part of the Council’s battle to keep the borough ‘Clean, Green and Safe’, from April, officers have been able to issue fixed penalty notices. Anyone who commits an “enviro-crime” including littering, dropping cigarette butts, dog fouling, graffiti, fly-posting or the irresponsible handing out of advertising flyers, will be fined £75.
Shaun Robson, Head of Environmental and Consumer Protection Services , said: “The Council spends approximately £1.8million on cleansing the Borough including the provision of litter bins. We want to make it easy for residents and visitors to dispose of their litter correctly and to take a pride in the places they live and work. There is no excuse for littering. We will continue to take a zero tolerance policy on enviro-crimes. The fixed penalty scheme is assisting our message, litter bugs will pay the penalty.”
Litter bins incorporating cigarette stubbers are being introduced and free pouches for gum and cigarette butt disposal are available from most Council buildings.
