The introduction of free bus travel for older residents has prompted a rise in the number of Panel members using public transport.
Most older Panel Members have told us that they find it difficult to access key facilities such as the hospital (60%), town centre (54%) and Civic Centre (56%) on foot, and many do not have access to a car, so public transport is an important resource.
Over three quarters of Panel Members who qualify for a free Connect bus pass (those over 60 years of age) have taken advantage of the scheme, with 44% having increased the number of journeys made by bus since free travel was introduced on the 1st April 2006.
