A special election edition of Poole News helped to raise awareness of local elections to 98%. In May 2007 awareness of the local elections was high amongst Panel Members, with Poole News, TV/Radio and the efforts of the political parties providing key sources of information.
On the 3rd May, 77% of Panel Members actually placed their vote - the majority of whom found voting to be an easy experience, with accessible polling stations and helpful staff. Voting in person remained the preferred method, with only a quarter opting to vote by post. From the responses received, it appears that there is a continuing lack of trust in the postal voting system – exacerbated by media reports of negative experiences elsewhere in the UK.
