Banning Smoking

Poole is one of the first towns in Britain to consider implementing a smoking ban in enclosed public places.

The Council mounted a comprehensive programme of research including questions in the Spring POP Survey, discussion groups with key stakeholders (residents, restaurateurs, hospitality employees and local businesses) and a campaign in The Daily Echo. A Select Committee was also convened where a Panel of Councillors quizzed the experts on the positive and negative effects of introducing a smoking ban in the town.

Councillor Peter Adams, Link opens in new window Chair of Poole’s SmokeStop Group said; “I’m delighted with the response to the Poole Opinion Panel Survey and am pleased that the issue has generated such an overwhelming interest amongst residents. The results are being collated at the moment so that the SmokeStop Group can consider all the detailed research that has been carried out over the last few months.”
