Housing Needs

We asked about your future housing needs to feed into a review of housing for older people. Whilst the strategy focuses on older people, we asked all panel members the questions to see how the results compare.

Almost two thirds of panel members live in a house (65%), with 2 out of ten of you (19%) living in flats and just over four out of ten (14%) in bungalows. The majority of you (almost 6 out of ten) would choose to stay in your current home.

If people were inclined to move, it was at a younger age, 37% between the ages of 50 and 59, and 24% over the age of 70.

If people over the age of 50 chose to move from their current home, they most want to move to bungalows. The desire for sheltered housing was relatively low across all age groups, as was the interest in residential care or extra care housing (8% of those over 70).

The results have been included in a report to the people who are planning the housing strategy and are actively influencing the decisions that are being made. Further consultation is being undertaken.
