Safe Together in Poole
We asked the Panel how they felt the amount of crime has changed in Poole within the last 12 months. Overall people in Poole that crime has increased less than in 2005. 22% said that crime had gone up a little, 4% a lot with 13% thinking crime had decreased. When asked how they think the amount of crime has changed nationally, two thirds (66%) of respondents felt that it had increased and 7% felt it had decreased.
When looking at types of crime and anti-social behaviour, residents feel that these are less of a problem than in 2005. Anti-social behaviour, car crime and arson were perceived as the biggest concerns in Poole, but perceptions of all of these have decreased significantly since 2005, with much fewer people feeling that any are a very big problem.
98% of residents feel safe in their local area during the day. 78% of those people who go out in their local area at night feel safe.

, Portfolio Holder for Safer Communities, said: “I am pleased that the survey findings show that Poole residents are feeling reassured that Poole is a safe place to live, work and play. The reality is that Poole has a very low crime rate, with reports of anti-social behaviour amongst the lowest in Dorset, and the work of the Poole Safe Together Partnership is to maintain and build on this. We are not complacent and are continually developing services and carrying out new initiatives to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour further still.”
The results will be used by the Poole Safe Together Partnership to identify the groups that are most in fear of crime with a view to reducing this perception, increase the awareness of initiatives being used to tackle anti-social behaviour, arson and vehicle crime.
